As Texas wedding photographers and videographers, we get to see a lot of wedding venues. In Houston, there is a perfect wedding venue for everyone! But we want to feature one venue in particular: The Julia Ideson Library. Built in 1926, the Julia Ideson Library was originally Houston’s main library location, but it was quickly outgrown. Now, the Spanish Renaissance building serves as a premier venue for weddings, galas, and more!

What We Love About the Julia Ideson Library

The Julia Ideson Library sits in the center of downtown Houston, within walking distance of multiple hotels. This makes it extra easy to get ready the morning of your wedding, and gives guests a few different options of places to stay the night before or after. You can get married inside or outside, and honestly? The inside option is probably our favorite. We’ve had many couples choose the indoor space to save them the stress of handling bad weather, and to spare their guests from the Texas heat!

When we think of unique venues in Houston, the Julia Ideson Library always comes to mind. Aesthetically, the building is stunning. With multiple levels, an art gallery, and the Spanish Renaissance-inspired architecture, there aren’t many other buildings like it. It’s perfect for couples who are looking for something unique and memorable. The way the space creates a warm, vintage feeling lets even large weddings feel intimate and personal.

Things to Keep in Mind When Planning a Wedding at the Julia Ideson Library

While we obviously love the Julia Ideson Library, there are a few things to note before choosing it as your wedding venue! First, plan for parking. Since the building is the center of downtown Houston, finding parking can be a challenge! Be sure to inform your guests of the parking situation and encourage them to arrive early on the day of your wedding. 

Second, there are many stairs and levels to navigate, which can be challenging for elderly guests or those with disabilities. But don’t worry too much! Elevators were installed in 2019 and provide alternate transportation for those who need it. Lastly, the Julia Ideson Library is public, which means your vendors may not be allowed to begin setup until a certain time. Be sure to communicate those details with your planner so all of your vendors are on the same page!

We wouldn’t recommend the Julia Ideson Library so strongly if we hadn’t shot multiple jaw-dropping weddings there! We love coming to Houston, and the Julia Ideson Library is one of our all-time favorite venues. We’ve even shot there during heavy rain and icy winters, and it is always beautiful!
