There’s something about pairing the electric energy of Congress Avenue with the timeless elegance of Hotel Ella that just works, and that’s exactly the mash-up Angela and Mathew brought to life for their engagement session. From marquee lights outside the Paramount and State Theatres to columned porches dressed in holiday greenery, this session had range: sleek and citified one moment, soft and romantic the next. And through every backdrop, these two were exactly who they are: playful, affectionate, and clearly still giddy over each other.

THEIR LOVE STORY

Angela and Mathew’s story actually started back in Michigan, where they matched on Hinge (yes, the apps really do work!). Their first date set the tone for everything that followed: a two-hour road trip to a haunted house. Not your average dinner-and-a-movie first date, but for these two, it was exactly right.

Since then, life has taken them all the way to Texas, and it was in the living room of their brand-new Austin home that Mathew got down on one knee, right as they were settling into this new chapter together. When Angela talks about Mathew, she’ll tell you it’s simple: she loves the way he looks at her. And when she thinks about married life, what she’s looking forward to most is just that: eighty more years of being looked at exactly like that.

THE SESSION

Angela described their style as urban and architectural: clean lines, staircases, elegant hallways, cityscapes. We built the whole session around that vision, kicking things off on Congress Avenue in the heart of downtown Austin and weaving between the Paramount and State Theatre marquees for that unmistakable city backdrop. Angela was effortlessly chic in a white mini dress with a sweeping tie-back sash, and Mathew kept it sharp in a black suit, the two of them a study in monochrome against all that brick and neon.

From there, we made our way to Hotel Ella, trading the city skyline for the estate’s grand white columns, wraparound porches, and holiday wreaths on every railing. Mathew swapped his suit jacket for a cream quarter-zip sweater, and the whole mood shifted right along with him: cozier, quieter, a little more “just the two of us.”

FAVORITE MOMENTS

It’s hard to pick just a few, but a couple of moments stood out. There was the champagne pop on Congress Avenue, bubbles catching the light as the Paramount marquee glowed behind them: pure, unfiltered joy. Later, at Hotel Ella, Angela hopped up on a vintage bellhop cart for a completely unplanned, completely perfect moment with Mathew. And then there was the elevator kiss: the kind of candid, can’t-help-ourselves moment that sums up exactly why we love engagement sessions. They’re proof of how a couple actually is together, not just how they pose.
